RF-EMR Health Effects Discussed in the Public Record at US Senate Commerce Committee Hearing

Sen. Blumenthal on Extreme Density Wireless 4G and 5G CPMRA Infrastructure: The American people deserve to know what the health effects are.

  • RF-EMR = Radio-frequency Electromagnetic Microwave Radiation
  • CPMRA = Close Proximity Microwave Radiation Antenna

On Feb 6, 2019, RF-EMR health effects from wireless 4G and 5G infrastructure were mentioned in Senate Commerce Committee Hearing, titled "Winning the Race to 5G and the Next Era of Technology Innovation in the United States." The Senate Commerce Committee is entrusted to provide oversight of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Feb 6, 2019, Sen. Blumemthal at Senate Commerce Committee Hearing:
“So, we are flying blind here as far as health and safety is concerned.”

Steve Berry, Competitive Carriers Association @ 4:07

Senator, I am not aware . . . with small cells especially, you are going to have lower power levels . . .

Really Mr. Berry? Evidence at this web page, proves otherwise: peak levels of Radio-frequency Electromagnetic Microwave Radiation (RF-EMR) exposures at 100 feet from a so-called small cell at ground level (170,300 peak µW/m²) meters 53% higher than a similar meter reading at 300 feet from this macro tower (111,700 peak µW/m²), which is creating a public health crisis in Sebastopol, CA after nine years of RF-EMR exposures — something the FCC Commissioners were made aware of on Sept 25, 2018.

What has been the response to date from Crown Castle, AT&T or the FCC to correct this public health crisis since Sept 25, 2018? NOTHING . . . crickets . . . Bueller?

On July 14, 2016 a handful of us were at the FCC, when the FCC Commissioners announced The Race to 5G. That same week, we started our efforts to educate Congress about the hazards of Extreme Density Wireless 4G and 5G CPMRA Infrastructure and the current adverse biological impacts from RF-EMR exposures that are occur at RF-EMR exposure levels that are hundreds-of-thousands of times lower than the FCC RF-EMR exposure guidelines.

Whenever a 5G-related meeting or hearing was held in the US Senate or House of Representatives, we tried to get the members of the relevant Committees to ask questions about these adverse health effects from RF-EMR exposures that are fully documented in the established, peer-reviewed scientific literature: over 20,000 studies since 1927.

On Feb 6, 2019 — two and a half years — later, it finally happened. Thank you, Senator Blumenthal for shining a bright light on an extremely important topic: a matter of life and inalienable rights for a large and growing population of Electromagnetically Sensitive (EMS) Americans — estimated to be at least 25,000,000 Americans in 2019.

One of our hard-working RF-EMR advocates attended the Senate Commerce Committee meeting and was excited to tell me that Senator Blumenthal made a comment in the record about the adverse RF-EMR health effects.

In the hearing, Senator Blumenthal asked, “are there any health implications? Are there any safety implications?” to the millions of the small cells that are likely to be located “*close to homes, schools work places and closer and closer to the ground?” .

Sen. Blumenthal mentioned the letter that he had sent to the FCC in December, 2018 asking FCC Commissioner Carr to cite the research on which the FCC relied upon to guarantee the public that Extreme Density Wireless 4G and 5G CPMRA Infrastructure is safe for Americans. While we still do not have a copy of the FCC’s response, according to Blumenthal, Commissioner Carr “essentially has failed to [provide the citations]” and just referred the Senator to the FDA. You may read Blumenthal's transcribed comments here.

Blumenthal concluded: “So, We are flying blind here on health and safety”. Not exactly. We know that the RF-EMR exposures at levels lower than that which heats tissue causes adverse biological effects, creating many neurological, reproductive, cardiac, DNA damages and other harms, including clear evidence of cancer. We have established science, including human evidence, proving adverse biological effects from RF-EMR exposures at just 0.5% of the current FCC RF-EMR exposure guideline.

You will find the video of the Feb 6 Senate Commerce Committee hearing here to watch the Blumenthal starts at 2:04:00.

Blumenthal highlighted a FDA recommendation from the FDA web site and asked the wireless industry panelists “how much money has the industry provided for independent research on biological effects? Shouldn’t we scientifically ascertain the health effects?

One of the panelists replied, “we rely on the expert agencies. There are no industry backed studies underway.”

So the FDA relies on industry and industry relies on the FDA…how long will this mockery of the American people continue?

Senator Wicker (R-MS) who is the new Chair of the Committee. He summarized the hearing by mentioning the need to protect privacy. At the very end, Wicker read — from a cell phone handed to him — a quote from the National Cancer Institute, saying that there is no consistent evidence that non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation increases cancer risk.

We should all wonder why Wicker didn’t mention the US Government’s own study, the $30 million NIEHS/NTP study that published its final results in November, 2018. The study and found CLEAR EVIDENCE of cancer and DNA damage from RF-EMR exposures not high enough to heat tissue.

Now we will have to see who will be the next member of the Senate Commerce Committee to do the right thing and speak the truth about adverse biological effects from RF-EMR exposures — before we blindly push the country into an unncecessary and hazardous Race to Extreme Density Wireless 4G and 5G CPMRA Infrastructure in front of our homes and workplaces.
